Stainless steel appliances are a popular choice among homeowners because of their durability and longevity. If you have used stainless steel items before, you would know that the steel is not stainless because its surface is coated with water stains and fingerprints. Although stainless steel is quite robust, over time, it can lose its shine due to rusting.
Start with these cleaning methods for your stainless steel products with just a few essential ingredients available in your home:

  • Olive oil and white vinegar

Take a soft piece of cloth soaked in white vinegar and then rub it on the silverware’s surface. If you see noticeable differences after just a few rubs, don’t hesitate to get more vinegar into the cloth and remove all the grime. For better results, you can use some olive oil and apply it over the newly-polished surface. While the white vinegar will eliminate all the dirt particles from your silverware, the olive oil helps it regain its former glow.

  • Dish soap and baby oil

Dish soap liquid works excellently to remove grime, dirt, and excess oil from your stainless steel appliances. Take a non-abrasive cleaning rag, dampen it with water, and then squeeze a few drops of dish cleaning liquid onto the rag. After that, rub the rag along the direction of the grain or the faint lines you can find on the surface of the stainless silver appliance. Once you have managed to remove all the grime and rust from the appliance, polishing your silvery item is now the time. Add in a few drops of baby oil onto the rag and rub it on the surface following the grain’s direction.

  • Club soda

Stop fussing about your graying stainless steel appliances and instead take things in your hand and grab a bottle of club soda from your fridge. Pour the soda in the grain direction and check whether the grime is starting to come off. If required, you can also put a little pressure and rub a rag to ensure equal application of the soda on the appliance’s surface. After you wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth, you will notice a shiny and polished look of the stainless silverware.

  • Furniture polish

Furniture polish has also been found to be effective in removing rust from stainless steel products. However, if you apply it directly on the appliance, it might not get spread evenly, leading to unsatisfactory results. Pour a few drops of furniture polish in the cleaning rag and then rub it on your appliance, putting a little extra effort on the rusty parts. Once the polish has been left to rest for some time, you will have to wipe it off with a clean rag.

  • Flour

If your stainless silver sink has lost its sparkle over the last few years, then you would need to make the most of flour. Clean your sink thoroughly to remove the excess dirt and grease; you will have to cover it with flour. Once the flour has dried off, take a slightly wet cloth and move it in a circular position to further polish your sink.

Follow any of these methods, and after a bit of elbow greasing, your stainless steel appliances will look brand new in no time.
